Meet the Winner of the #MusicDilSe Contest Season 1 at Funkaar

She sang without pretense or show off. She had little idea that her simplicity and melodious singing would charm many hearts. Her first participation in Funkaar's #MusicDilSe singing contest won her the very first prize too. For the 12th grade student, Simran Ferwani from Kolkata, it is an incredible victory for which she cannot thank her fans enough. Simran has had no training in classical singing but hails from a family of singers. She finds herself very small in comparison to her mother and grandmother who are trained classical singers. Simran's mother, and her friends have been a strong and constant support to her.
Simran Ferwani

Simran attended some voice modulation workshop for two days and she considers that it has been a great asset to her singing. She is grateful to her guide, Gautam Sir for all his guidance that has proved helpful to her in her singing ventures. Simran plans to take up training in music seriously after her board exams for music is something that "completes her".

Her experience with Funkaar was amazing. In her own words, her fellow contestants are "blessed with amazing voices" and she has been lucky enough to get more love from her friends and admirers, and that too for a Bengali number. She had sung Tumi Jake Bhalobaso from Praktan. You may listen to the song here - http://www.funkaar.in/challenge/music-dil-se-new/tumi-jakey-bhalobasho-praktan-100

Simran says that her mother tells her that "When you do something that you like, life turns to be much more easy." And that is the reason she could relate so much to the #MusicDilSe contest. It was all about singing from your heart. And that's what she did. She just has one more thing to say "Never stop singing...!!!"

Simran's favorite singers are many - Shreya Ghoshal/Arijit Singh/Bruno Mars/Adam Levine/Michael Jackson /Conor Maynard/John Mayer - the list goes on...!

If given a chance, she would like to sing for Kareena Kapoor.

Zaalima and Moh Moh Ke Dhaage are her contemporary favorite numbers.

And although she hopes to take up Chartered Accountancy or work in the Human Resources Management, she is sure of one thing - Music will always be a constant.

We wish Simran a very bright future full of music, melody and happiness.

Congratulations!!

The Biggest Fan of Mohammad Rafi

Today, we bring before you the story of an earnest fan. His zeal and dedication towards his favorite singer will impress you by the its sheer honesty and selflessness. Kishore Makhwana, the 65 year old die-hard fan of Mohammad Rafi, hails from Tardeo, Mumbai.

He started singing as a child and was fortunate enough to even meet the late legendary singer when he was only 10 year old. He recollects how he had naively talked to the singer saying. "Rafisaab aapne SUKU SUKU gaana kya gaaya hai bohut hi mast”(Rafi Saab, you have sung so beautifully the song Suku Suku - it is great...), to which the superstar had replied, " Son, pay attention to your studies." His devotion to Rafi Saab is unbelievable. The admiration and respect that he holds for one of the greatest singers of India film industry is evident in over 1200 audios he has made to honor the latter. Kishore, with the help of his son Suniel, and his best friend Vinod Raj Kapoor has also managed to make around 300 videos to pay respect to Mohammad Rafi.

Kishore says that the technical credit for shooting and editing the videos goes to his son. He owes a lot to his best buddy Vinod Raj Kapoor too, who visits each and every location in Maharashtra where they plan to shoot their videos. Initially, they would make videos indoors but then they decided to venture out. The trio have shot in a variety of locations like Mahabaleshwar, Malshej Ghat, Punjab, Gujarat, Kullu Manali, Dalhousie, Dharamshala City(Himachal Pradesh), Jyot Point (Gadar Point )(Himachal Pardesh), Khajjiar(Mini Switerzland Of India)(Himachal Pradesh), Lonavala, Khandala.

The amazing part of it all is that all the videos are non-commercial and their sole purpose is a fan's tribute to his idol. The entire process from pre-production (which involves audio recording, arranging wardrobe and transportation, selecting location, preparing budget, and waiting for the 'proper sunlight') to production to post-production (which involves putting in sound and images together and creating visual effects) is long and expensive which costed him tens of lacs of rupees. But it does not deter the fan. He has just one goal, just one dream - to honor the great singer.

The ardent devotee of Rafi Saab has some unfulfilled dreams too which he hopes will come true one day. He wishes to shoot Rafi Saab's songs, AASMAN SE AAYA FARISHTA in Helicopter and CHAHE KOI MUJHE JUNGLEE KAHE in Kashmir during the snow fall in winter. When we asked him to pick one favorite number from Rafi Saab, Kishore laughed and said, "Rafi Saab's songs are just like having sweets." He cannot choose one sweet that is his favorite since he enjoys them all. He has been singing for over 50 years. He had performed first time in 1970 in his college show at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Chowpatty, Mumbai. He stresses that honesty towards one's work is the key to success. Hard work pays off if done with sincerity. and he encourages everyone to be true to one's passion.

In Kishore ji's words -
"Maine apne dono guru Devsaab aur Rafisaab se yahi sikha hai ke zindaagi chaar dino ki hai, kuchh aisa kar jao ke duniyaa yaad rakhe."

When we asked him why he is so devoted to Rafi Saab, his reply was that Rafi Saab is "matchless", he has the "most melodious voice", and the sheer variety that the great legend offered in singing songs of different genres, be it comic, or romantic, is inimitable. Kishore says, "Chamatkar to ek baar hi hota hai...unko janam deni wali maa ko sat sat pranam..." (Miracle happens only once.....I would bow a hundred times before the mother who gave birth to Rafi Saab) Well, as we sign off, should we say, that such fans are no less than miracles too. Their modest and selfless commitment speaks volumes about their character too. Hats off to such fans....Hats off to Kishore...!!!
